A bit about me!

Hello and welcome to my blog! I wanted a place where I can share some of my thought process when it comes to how I capture the photos that I take. To start with, I'd love to share a bit about myself and my background...
My family have always been into photography so it's something I was introduced to at an early age. As a child, I would pose and smile for thousands of photos, looking at them with excitement! When I grew up, I started to play with my mum's DSLRs and take my own photos, learning a thing or two about theory along the way - I'd look at the photos and loved the feeling I got when I captured a good moment!

I never really settled for a specific genre of photo - at home, I'd work on portraits, taking photos of the rest of my family and capturing special moments as my cousins grew up. But then, there was theatre! Another passion of mine; As shows started to allow photos during bows, I took my trusty camera and tried to get the best shots through the darkness of the auditorium and the bright spotlights of the stage. And, of course, animals! I must've taken hundreds of photos of my loyal companion, my westie, Daisy.

When lockdown hit and University moved online, I had much more time to explore this special hobby of mine. But what to photograph? I spent hours chasing wildlife in my own garden, befriending squirrels and experimenting with different modes. In the past year, I've learned more about photography than I have in the rest of my life! Lockdown relit the spark that photography used to bring me.

When I'm not taking photos, I'm studying for my degree in biomedical sciences, or pursuing other hobbies of mine - performing, making art, or reading!
Now, for a little insight into my gear - what do I carry when taking photos?
Currently, I use two cameras - a Nikon D300s (with an 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 lens) or a newer Nikon D750 (with the 24-120mm kit lens). Both cameras work beautifully and the lenses are great for the range of photos I capture. They're good for anything from portraits to travel photography! I prefer to use the D750 for theatre photography - as it's newer, the sensor works much better in low-light situations and I can bump the ISO up higher as needed without getting any noticeable grain! When out and about on a daily basis, I also use my iPhone XS if I spot something that I think would make a lovely photo!
What would I most like to try within photography?
Personally, I would really love to try some sport photography, especially gymnastics - it's so fun watching the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and seeing all of the incredible photos that have come out of it. Plus, all of the movement makes it even more rewarding when you get that perfect photo!
